It’s been a few years since I’ve visited the annual holiday train show at the NY botanical garden. We were able to visit on the last day before teardown.

I don’t remember any outdoor trains the last time I went — the sunlight had come out just as we arrived at the conservatory, so the trains gleamed in pleasant golden rays of sunshine.

The architecture of the conservatory itself was lofty and airy; I loved seeing the plants and trees reaching up towards blue skies, framed by their urban incubators.

The entry hall opens up into a huge space filled with historic buildings. It’s a bit repetitive, but I can’t deny the feeling when sun shines through onto the flowers, towering over in beautiful disproportion — as if the parks department had gone out onto the streets and replaced every rote tree with a vast array of delicate blossoms.
I also love the model bridges towering overhead as trains shuttle passengers back and forth.
